Poll

A problem TMN has always had, is ISPs. Some seem to think it's best to throw all users through one proxy server, resulting in many players having the same IP address. Why is this important to us? Because players having the same IP Address, look like duplicate accounts to us. And if these accounts have interaction, it becomes a violation of the TOS.

"so, why don't we publish a list of users on my IP", is a question I often get. The reason is quite simple. Our TOS simply states we will never provide 'private information' to any third party. This third party can be a company or person, including a player.

Now, I would like to know what you find more important; Being safe, or having the TOS changed so your username and ISP details can be published to others.

Please let other players know they can vote here, I really am interested in your opinions. You can also comment to this post, if you want to add something. Thanks in advance.

Update #1
Option 1: You will get a page where you can see everyone who has accessed your IP. You will appear on lists of other users, who have logged in at your house/school/internet cafe as well.

Option 2: When you're about to send someone who has been on your IP anything, you'll get a warning. Something like "this user has used your IP, if you continue, you will be in violation of the TOS".

Option 3: You will get a page where you can see if other (active) accounts are on your IP.

Option 4: You are responsible, read the TOS and watch out!

Option 5: Place your own opinion in a comment to the related blog post.

Personally I think TMN should have a system where it should tell you if you are using the same IP as someone else, or warn you before any interaction with someone on the same IP & if you still continue to interact with the person on your IP then you should be banned.

I understand what you're saying, it's a difficult situation.

However on nearly 95% of all online mafia games ive played over the years, all have had an Accounts on IP list.

Nothing fancy, just a:

333.384.333.3
Kronos
NotKronos
Relentless
DragonCurse

A few times ive looked at this list, and other accounts have been on my IP. Obviously due to the ISP.
The question is, even if we DO implement this system, how do we still determine who's duping and who's not?
What if i send money to a person who isnt on the list, but then 3 weeks later, the ISP puts him on the same IP as me? Therefor a once 'safe' transaction because an offence.

Maybe have Time and Dates that the accounts first logged in using that IP. And any transactions before that date, are void.
Only transactions AFTER the 'first logged in using IP:' time/date should be bannable.

Makes sense IMO.

Quick Edit in regards to:
''TMN should warn you just before a same IP interaction''

Ive also seen this on other games. Basically, TMN checks to see if the account you're sending credits, money, bullets and or casinos to, and IF that account has EVER been on an IP that is the same as yours. It wont allow you to send to that person. A Simple 'You cannot have transactions with a player on the same IP' message would be fine.

This will only affect a few peoples transactions, who could then just used a third party to rectify the problem.

There's still the posibility of of people avoiding that system Kronos. I figure, the warning should be given before a transaction. Allthough a list of players who - have ever had the same IP as you - could work aswell, seeing as otherwise there would still be difficult cases.

"This will only affect a few peoples transactions, who could then just used a third party to rectify the problem."

This would be in breach of the TOS regarding third party same IP transfers.

The drawback to what Noctis said is according to the TOS it doesnt matter if someone is on the SAME IP at the SAME time. It just matters if 2 accounts happen to use the same IP. Even if it was weeks apart. Even if one account only used that IP one time.

Even if its one active acct per IP. You would still have the problem.

In regards to Kronos's 2nd post: You would also have to include OC invites. It would really be an issue to get an invite, complete it, then realize you cant get paid.

I like this idea, seeing as i have a brother that plays and we are on same IP when im at home...the nwhen im at college, I play wiht 3 room mates, and sometimes i don't know there names, and being able to see who is on ur IP would be good for added safety, i am STRONGLY in favor of this:D

As other games have done, you can't even invite people to OC's if they are on the same IP. At the moment, I think the best option would be the warning, and if you go through with it you can't even deny transactions, as you obviously had transactions with the intent to dupe.

@ Ying Yang: That 3rd party transaction is extremely vauge & broad. Is there a time limit, is there a amount limit?

I think there should be a page that shows all the users on your IP.

If you send anything to any of these users you are automatically banned.

Or, don't allow it to send at all; when you try it should come up with a message saying something like "You cannot send to this player because you are both on the same IP".

I think that it would be a good idea to warn us if we are about to send accross an ip that will violate our TOS.

The lists of whos currently using your Ip is good too.

But I think it should be bannable for someone to exchange money to an account that is activly using the same ip not just the odd time. Because I'm sure we've all logged on at a friends house to check mail etc. at least once.

That would mean we'd get banned f we OC'ed with them before we logged on their ip briefly no?

"Option 2: When you're about to send someone who has been on your IP anything, you'll get a warning. Something like "this user has used your IP, if you continue, you will be in violation of the TOS"."

Would you allow 3rd party IP interactions... So say player x and player y are on the same IP, could player x send player y OC payment via player z?

I could see that cuases more dupes?

3rd party interactions are already a violation of the TOS, but if we block transfers on same IP, it will be used widely by scammers. This will also make a mods' job harder.

I'd personally think a list of others on your IP is best, because it still holds you responsible, and dupers/scammers aren't known for their accuracy usually ;)

OMG You got the YoYoMan! But I shall strike once more, for I am the YoYoMan!

And Option 2 seems best to me.

You banned me (Calmbomb) for no reason No one has NEVER logged on my ip! Of course the internet i use is only for me, i mean the ip. So no one can log on my IP. You ban me for no reason! You never gave me a warning(i never needed one either). So i loose 2000C (same day i bought it)

Didn't you make a topic stating you bought 6k credits with a stolen creditcard? o.O Why would any of us believe you on not having had same IP-transfers?

Anonymous said...

YingYang, i did that for fun:P, i told m33 that. And it was 2k credits, and if you read what i write before say i might have IP transfers then you will know i never had any IP transfers. Right after i bought it, i got banned.
First i thought it was because of the topic i made, but no. He accuses me for IP - Transfering.
